Meet the Staff
Rev. Dr. Stephen T. Um
Senior Pastor
Rev. Dr. Stephen T. Um has been in the Boston area for a number of years which has allowed him to acquire a unique awareness for the various intellectual and cultural issues confronting Bostonians. After receiving a call to ministry, he entered Seminary at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he received an M. Div. and Th.M. in Biblical Theology. He received his Ph.D. in New Testament studies at St. Mary’s College (University of St. Andrews) in Scotland.
Besides his position as Senior Minister at Citylife Church of Boston, he is a professor of New Testament studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, author of The Theme of Temple Christology in John’s Gospel, The Library of New Testament Studies 2006, T & T Clark International (formerly the Journal for the Study of the New Testament Supplement Series), and serves on the Board of Directors for The Gospel Coalition. He currently resides in Charlestown with his wife and three children.
Jonathan Kerhoulas
Assistant Pastor University Ministry

Jonathan Kerhoulas holds a B.A. in Bible/Theology and a minor in Psychology from Asbury College as well as an M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Jonathan has lived in the Boston area since 2003 and has continued to grow in his love and understanding of cities. Realizing that Boston is unique in its strategic position within academia, he is energized to work with and amongst Boston students, our future world influencers. Jonathan is likewise excited at the opportunity to develop leaders with a heart for reaching Boston and beyond. And his true passion is in seeing people come to understand the tangible and comprehensive scope of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection accomplished for them. Presently, he resides in Boston with his wife Danielle and their son Mason.
Bobby Krier
Director of Music
Born in the Northwest (Portland, OR), Bobby Krier spent most of his early years in the Midwest and then relocated to Sacramento where he led music for the past nine years. After graduating from the University of California at Davis in Religious Studies and a minor in Jewish Studies, Bobby has continued to pursue music education in the context of worship. Bobby has been working in the PCA for the past five years, and enjoys being apart of the Lord’s work here at Citylife. Bobby’s greatest desire for worship is to see men and women glorify the most significant and amazing person in history, Jesus Christ! He lives with his wife Stephanie in the North End.
James Hsiao
University Ministry Discipleship Director
Born in New York City and a raised in central New Jersey, James has developed a deep appreciation for the urban context. James earned his bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Rutgers University and an M. Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He began his ministry experience working with youths and families for Chinese-American churches, and then spent his last year of seminary interning as a hospital chaplain at Beverly Hospital in the North Shore of Massachusetts. Outside of work, James’ favorite hobbies are photography and cooking. He currently resides in Cambridge with his wife Allison.
